ASC Noise Baffles

Founded by acoustical engineer and physicist Arthur M. Noxon, Acoustic Sciences Corporation (ASC) has been dedicated to developing noise and sound control devices since 1984. Our early products were a direct response to the needs of the professional recording industry. We are best known for our Tube Trap™ product line, a modular full-bandwidth sound control device that combines the principle of the RC-time constant bass trap with that of treble range diffusion panels. We also build sound cancelling side branch resonators to control tonal sounds in ducts.

FAA Noise Baffles

NCP-10 system for ASR-9 Sites

NCP-8 system for Mode-S Sites

ARTCC Baffle System

For the uninitiated, ASR-9 puts a dot on the Airport's Flight Control radar screen. Mode-S reads an aircraft's transponder and places the flight ID next to the dot on the radar screen. The regional ARTCC (Air Route Traffic Control Center) tracks in-flight movement. Each of these facilities have hardware rooms with very loud cooling fans. ASC engineered "noise suppression kits" for them which allow on-site technicians to work without the need for hearing protection.

When the first ASR-9 site was being set up at LAX in 1990, the noise level were found to be totally objectionable -upwards of 82dBA in the equipment room. ASC was contracted by FAA site technicians and we provided temporary noise barriers. After extensive engineering analysis, working closely with FAA engineers, we developed our first air breathing baffle system, the NCP-10. This was in response to the FAA request for the "the finest system you can provide".

We have provided 75% of all ASR-9 sites with our top quality NCP-10 system. Mode-S was the next upgrade by FAA for ASR-9 sites and accordingly we developed the NCP-8 system to the same exacting standards of performance, acoustics, handling, and durability established by the NCP-10 system.

See our in-depth descriptions of the NCP-10 baffle system for ASR-9 sites, the NCP-8 for Mode S sites and our ARTCC baffle System. Your personnel will appreciate the significant noise reduction.

Custom Noise Baffles

ASC also makes custom solutions to help quiet any kind of high noise air handler or cooling system. Mr. Noxon and the ASC staff will engineer an add-on unit designed to seemlessly fit your existing air intake and/or exhaust. High noise air handler situations, such as those found in the cooling systems for large electronic switching centers, can cause hearing loss for unprotected workers on site. Our goal is to reduce the noise level to OSHA acceptable levels or better.

Many of our large industrial clients are very happy with the results.

Mufflers and Recirculators

ASC In-Line Mufflers are a custom noise control product. In certain circumstances, customers require a total removal of perceptible sound while continuing to circulate HVAC air. Usually these customers are recording studios, but not always. ASC will custom design, based on your room size and other variables, in-line mufflers and air recirculators which will effectively maintain air flow without transmitting sound.

The priciple is simple. As air rushes past specially designed fiberglass panels, sound absorption takes place. Not very different from the muffler on your car.
